Wave of Wales birthday wishes leaves princess far from spare

This blog will dip into the lives of the British Royal Family in Coronation year. And while the twelve months hasn't got off to the smoothest of starts, there was a striking celebration of one particular member of the House of Windsor that came as a surprise. Royal birthdays come and go but, in 2023, it seemed everyone wanted to celebrate the special day of the Princess of Wales.

We've got used to royal social media accounts posting 'Happy Birthday' photos for various members (there will be plenty on social media, official and otherwise on this blog in the months to come) but as Kate turned 41, the wave of wishes for her birthday was really very noticeable indeed.

Maybe it's her new title (this is her first birthday as Princess of Wales), maybe it was an attempt for royal news to be jolly (rather than the barrage of discussion initiated by her brother-in-law, the Duke of Sussex) or maybe it was a show of support for the Windsors as they sustained another broadside from Harry, all to be taken silently.

Either way, Kate's face popped up on social media accounts everywhere as birthday celebrations went viral. The Irish Guards, of which she has just been made Colonel, led the way, followed by US State Department who had just hosted her on a visit to Boston.

Many of her patronages and charities said Happy Birthday, the 21st century way although the National Portrait Gallery had the easiest job, sharing once more the rather striking portraits of HRH from her 40th birthday last year.

Catherine Elizabeth, Princess of Wales was born on January 9th 1981 in Reading, Berkshire and married Prince William on April 29th 2011. She celebrated her 41st birthday quietly and privately, even if everyone else was shouting about it.
